We have only recently moved into Tavistock and we are slowly working through the local restaurants, we have read the reviews for the Royal Spice and tonight (21/03/13) we took the plunge. This is a seriously good takeaway, we didn't pre order but even so the time from order to collection was very reasonable, pleasant and chatty staff and food was to die for. EXCELLENT. If you never eat here you are missing out on one of lifes gems.

The best Indian takeaway in Tavistock .... without a doubt. It[s just a shame that they don't have a sit in place, but it;s probably for the best beacuse I'd spend a fortune there lol. The chap that runs it is always very friendly and has even knocked up dishes on request before. They clearly take pride in the food they produce ... and it shows through taste and quality.

This small Indian curry house provides an excellent menu full of authentic cuisine. The Royal Spice on West Street is extremely popular with local Tavistock residents and continues to build a solid reputation with it’s great service and high standard of cooking. The prices at The Royal Spice are reasonable too.
This really is a fantastic takeaway. I only really eat in when I have an Indian meal which is a shame because unfortunately the Royal Spice is only a takeaway. Whenever I think of getting a takeaway I seem to automatically think Chinese, but I must change that because I always kick myself after! You can tell that a lot of effort has gone into preparing the food, and the authentic taste is great.

The fact that Tavistock now has two Indian restaurants and an Indian take-away highlights how popular this type of cuisine is within the town. Royal Spice hasnt been there too long but has a growing reputation. It's always nice to find a take-away that exceeds your expectations and Royal Spice should do that for you when you taste their food.

ReportI would definitely recommend The Royal Spice Takeaway. If money and health were no object I could buy from here 3 or 4 nights a week! There is nothing glamorous about the shop. In fact, its tiny but the main thing is that the food is good quality. You may have to wait a while if its a busy Friday or Saturday night, but thats just because they are quite popular. If you are in town anytime, pop in and grab a menu to put on your fridge at home.

This small and understated takeaway produces the biggest flavours in Tavistock. Fact.
As far as South Asian food goes in the South-West, we are very used to the generic browny yellowish curries that most restaurants produce. The Royal Spice is a diamond in the rough.
All the food tastes fresh and feels like it is created with care and love.
Service, although at times slow, is very friendly and down-to-earth, unlike the over-rated Ganges or the insipid Thariks.
Prices are very reasonable and I have even seen deals with 20% off AND 20% going to charity.
The only shame is that the best Indian in Tavistock is the only one that is not a restaurant.
I really like this place and I urge you to try it and keep it in business.
I would have given this takeaway more than 5 stars if I could. I have tried all the indian restarants in Tavistock and this little take away knocks the spice out of all of them. Top quality ingredients and service makes this a regular treat for us. Keep an eye out for a new menu in the coming months with more mouth watering meals.
