I was a little worried to try this Restaurant after seeing the last review on how they felt it was disgusting (maybe your just fussy or caught them on a busy night) but to me it was just lovely. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were friendly and could answer all my questions about the food and with a smile. They were always there to top up our drinks and just seemed genuinely interested in hearing about our day and how we were. I found the food very tasty, we had the duck as a starter which i hear is very popular and can now understand why. For our mains we had sweet and sour chicken and satay beef, the sweet and sour chicken has always been one of mine and my partners favourite and i found this one to be just as nice as any other i have had. Lots of lovely sauce and nice size peices of chicken that you can tell is not fake horrible chicken. Everything was just splended and when we visit Tavistock again we will be going back to the Birds Nest. Just amazing!! Thank you Birds Nest for such a wonderful night. x

Me and my partner are from Tavistock and decided to go and eat at the Birds Nest. The first course arrived which was the cripsy aromatic duck which we had no complaints with, it was very very tasty. After we had finished we waited at least twenty minutes for minutes the staff to even clear our plates. When our main finally arrived it was completly inedible! The sweet and sour chicked Cantonese style had no taste and was extremly dry to the point where we left almost all of it! The beef in garlic and black bean sauce was no better, the whole thing had been burnt so badly that it was disgusting. The egg fried rice was undercooked and dry. Me and my partner are only 21 and were oviously regarded as knife wielding youths who beat up pensioners at the weekends and this reflected in the service. We were sat round the corner out of sight of all the other customers and the staff didnt even speak to us all evening to find out if everything was all right. The family sat in the table round corner were treated like visiting royalty, does this seem fair? I would not recommend eating here to my worst enemy! To top it off my girlfriend has spent the evening in the loo! If I could give it no stars I would but the website won't let me!
The Bird's Nest is just about everything you could ask for from a chinese restaurant in Tavistock. Fast, friendly and tasty food. It's particularly nice to have a chinese restaurant as well as a take away, although some customers will find the restaurant inaccessible. The food is nice, but nothing particularly new or exciting as far as chinese take away goes. Takeaway orders are always correct and on time and the sit-down service is very prompt too.
The Birds Nest is a great place to eat and if you dont want to eat in you can take away. Very varied menu with all the usuals you would expect but when your food arrives you wont be dissapointed. Very friendly, polite staff and very relaxed atmosphere. Also very happy to cater for large groups so a good place to come for birthdays or large family get togethers.
Birds nest is a brilliant resturant to eat in at! The staff are very welcoming and polite; they are always at hand to refill drinks and answer any questions or queries you may have! It offers a good take away service but i would recommend sitting in as the food seems alot more enjoyable and fulfilling, compared to the take away service.

The Birds Nest Restaurant is a nice Chinese restaurant in Tavistock, the staff places just as much emphasis on the food they prepare as they do on the service they provide. The menu has a wide choice of dishes which cater to vegetarians and meat lovers alike, The Birds Nest uses local produce wherever possible to ensure that the best and freshest ingredients are used in every dish!

I've eaten in there before and the food was great but had a takeaway from there only a few days ago and one of the things I've ordered was "bbq spare ribs" and blimey the smell of the vinegar in them nearly made me faint, I reckon it could of put a dog to sleep if the dog smelt it. They were supposed to smell barbecue-ish but instead it was strong smell of vinegar. It hurt my eyes after smelling it, I wonder what it does to the stomach. Absolutely disappointed and I am going to tell them about this next time I'm in there.

The birds nest is a great restaurant and take away it is also one of the few take aways where your food is ready on time, there is hardly ever a wait. The food is superb and the service is excellent. It is always piping hot and delicious. The restaurant service is also superb and the staff are very helpful and professional, there is always a good atmosphere in the restaurant in the evenings. Highly recommended.
Have been getting takeaway from here for years and always celebrate birthdays etc in the restaurant. It is a fantastic place to go for any chinese food lover. The food is excellent, the sizzling dishes especially! There is a lovely layout which includes a small seated waiting are in which there are prawn crackers to nobble on while you decide on your order. Then you are seated upstairs ( upan old iron spiral staircase!) in a lovely spacious restaurant to enjoy your meal. Great place, frequently recommend friend and family.
