  • Spectators started to gather on Drake Road and Abbey Place half an hour before the race was due to arrive
  • Police closing the Dolvin Road roundabout to traffic
  • Getting a suitable vantage spot on Abbey Place became a tricky business
  • Some found a good viewing point above the bridge
  • Five minutes to go before the race came through and for some there was still time to cross the road
  • A police outrider warned that the race was approaching
  • A motorcycle cavalcade of race officials arrived just ahead of the leading group...
  • And here they come!
  • A breakaway group headed through the town at about 12.20pm

  • Four and a half minutes behind the breakaway group came the peloton

  • And as quickly as they arrived, the cyclists departed, en route for the tough hill climbs of the Dartmoor National Park
  • Within minutes of the race coming through Tavistock, the crowds started to disperse
