Another great turn out of volunteers for the Tidy Tavy Day on Sat 3rd March. Community spirit is certainly growing, however so is the litter!
A massive thank you to the 23 volunteers who worked hard and collected 30 bags of rubbish, plus we picked up a Tiddybrook meadows yellow road sign! a car tyre, huge piece of metal, 6 cardboard boxes, a big plastic container and a full plastic container full of corrosive liquid.
Anderton lay by seems to be a big problem area, there is a bin to put rubbish in, it such a great pity that it isn't used more.
Fly tipping is a huge problem, this results in a high cost to the council who have to then remove it. The individuals responsible for doing this please stop from destroying the town and surrounding area's by not disposing of your rubbish in the correct manner.
May be the council needs to look at reducing the cost involved by the local tip for disposing of rubbish there. This certainly is adding to the fly tipping problem we are now faced with.
Who is responsible for keeping Crelake Industrial Estate clean? We cleared that area on Saturday and it was a disgusting mess. A bag and a half was filled full with plastic bottles and cans needlessly thrown down, most of which were in the vicinity of the Bodyzone gym area. Please folks place your empties in the bins inside the gym or take them home.
In total in the Crelake Industrial estate we collected 9 bags full of rubbish, and there is still more there to be collected.
To who ever is responsible for removing 5 of the "Love where you Live" bin stickers that were placed on all the bins in the Meadowland park, please refrain from doing this. If you feel you want to remove something, be useful and take the time to pick up litter and put it in the bin, instead of removing these bin stickers.
So the Tidy Tavy Team fight on to clean up our beautiful town, in the hope that other's will follow our example and stop from throwing their litter down. Please bin it or take it home.
Next Tidy Tavy Day is on Sat 7th April meeting at the Wharf at 10am. Come in your Easter bonnet/hat, there will be a prize for the best female and male. So come along and join us, have some fun and do something useful for your community.

Thanks for you comments. It was a great Tidy Tavy Day. 16 volunteers turned up and were not deterred by the cold weather (we are a tough lot)
Within two hours we had collected 28 bags of rubbish. A team was taken to the Anderton layby where they blitzed the place, lets hope people using it in future will put their rubbish in the bin provided there.
It's amazing how hedgerows draw people to throw all sorts of rubbish in. If only the individuals realised how difficult it can be to remove it, they may think twice before needlessly throwing it in. Please people dispose of your litter in one of the many bins around the town, or take it home.
Tavistock is a beautiful town, a place we should be all very proud to live in. Why do some thoughtless people spoil the place for the majority who do respect where they live and who dispose of their litter in a proper manner.
Come on Tavistock people do you bit for your town, keep it clean and tidy.
If you love where you live, think before throwing litter down.
