1st Birthday Megaquiz, buffet and raffle
Tidy Tavi volunteers, friends and family packed the function room at the Tavy Club, Tavistock last Friday 19th October to celebrate Tidy Tavi's 1st birthday with a 'Mega-Quiz', buffet and raffle.
The 'Megaquiz' was officiated by quizmaster, Steve Hipsey, using a dynamic and entertaining Powerpoint presentation of moving images and music, and included rounds such as picture spin, music, history and general knowledge and included questions for all age groups.Twelve quiz teams took part and was eventually won by the 'Dolly Mixtures'.
The Tidy Tavy raffle was also supported by 27 local Tavistock businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes which ranged from gift vouchers, jewellery and flowers to fish and a chip supper and a cream tea for two.
This year it was decided that all proceeds of the Birthday Raffle would be donated to the local charity, The Memory Cafe, which provides help and support to local families and carers of family members suffering from dementia or memory loss.
Tidy Tavi is delighted with the support it has received from volunteers and the public over the past year and looks forward to continuing its work to address the litter issue in and around Tavistock in the coming year.
Tidy Tavi litter-pick days are the 1st Saturday of each month meeting at the Wharf car-park at 9.50am and last about two hours. Litter-picking equipment is provided, just bring stout gloves.
The next Tidy Tavi litter-pick day is Saturday 1st Dec.

The 1st Anniversary of Tidy Tavi took place yesterday in sunshine, just like the first Tidy Tavi on the 1st October 2011 however that day was very hot and sunny!

Tidy Tavi has met each month on the 1st Saturday and over the course of the last year and have collected many bags of rubbish as well as other items, some quite unusual.

The group continues to grow in numbers with more concerned residents joining the team to help combat the litter issue in and around their beautiful home town of Tavistock.

This month the Tidy Team tackled two area's, with 21 volunteers meeting at the Wharf, while 12 other volunteers met up at the entrance to Bishopmeads.

It was great to welcome 8 new volunteers also a friend for Womble, Tony a small poodle accompanied his owner.
Ages of the volunteers range from 4-94 years - so as you can see you are never to young or to old to help!

A total of 25 bags were collected. A huge big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who gave up 2 hours of their time.

All the volunteers said how much they enjoy helping and it is such a good way to have some exercise while doing something useful at the same time.
It is a opportunity to meet up with other people living here and make new friends.

What was very sad to see this morning while I was out on a cycle ride with my husband was a large amount of rubbish once again in the West Devon Business Park. This was cleared yesterday by a team of Tidy Tavi volunteers. This is a result of youths who congregate in their cars each evening and throw their litter out of the car windows.
It is good to have area's for youths to meet up, but why should we all have to tolerate their antisocial behaviour, something has to be done to stop this sort of thing going on.

Most of us want to live in a clean litter free town, we put our rubbish in the many bins provided or take it home. So to those of you that spoil it for us all, please stop!
To throw litter down is an offence, Have some pride and start to make a change today PLEASE.

Our next Tidy Tavi will be on Saturday 3rd November - so why not make a note in your diary to come along and join us.
