Sunshine greeted the 25 volunteers and mascot Womble the dog who met at the Wharf for Tidy Tavi's 21st litter pick last Saturday 6th July.
New volunteers were residents who have recently moved to Tavistock and Sarah a young person from Gunnislake.
Four teams covered usual routes around Tavistock from Monksmead, Pixon Lane, Whitchurch Road, town centre and Bank and Taylor square.
Leader Jane and her team used dustpan and brushes to tackle dropped cigarette butts at the bus station and other area's in town - an ever present problem in spite of the 'litter bin' ashtrays. Many thanks Jane, this is hard hot work to carry out.
Twenty bags of litter were collected, and team leaders commented how there is far less litter in Tavistock since Tidy Tavi begun.
PJ's fish n chips and Bob's Eastend cafe very kindly supplied complimentary cups of tea to volunteers in thanks for the work they were carrying out in the community. Thank you, it is so good to know that so many local businesses are supporting our campaign. Many Businesses are doing a brilliant job by sweeping and keeping the outside of the premises clean and litter free.
The next litter-pick will be on August 3rd. Volunteers should meet at The Wharf car park at 9.50am, We finish by noon. All equipment provided, please bring your own protective gloves.
We welcome all new volunteers and children provided they are accompanied by an adult.
