Could drivers in Devon face a charge in the future for using car park at work?

Saw this very sad article regarding local authorities, including Devon, potentially imposing a charge on businesses that offer parking facilities to employees:

Now, I don't know about you but it seems a bit mad at this time for so many reasons - at a time when businesses are trying their best to get through still what is considered a difficult economic climate, in rural areas when there aren't as good transport links when compared to more urban environments together with the fact that a survey just out reports that more and more people are dipping into savings just to make ends meet due to pay freezes and the cost of day to day living such as food, utilities and even fuel for cars is sky rocketing.
Can SME's take an extra cost being imposed upon them and is it fair that the ordinary person who doing an honest day's work to earn their keep should fork out even more money?
Is the reason why local authorities are looking at these schemes due to being hit big time by massive spending cuts as a result of the giant deficit this country now has? How will the services they provide to the residents be affected as they become increasingly expensive due to the rise in associated costs? Will every aspect of community life that is paid for out of council tax become more and more scrutinised and slimmed down?

I am not sure that final decisions are ever made locally. The Urban Sprawl being brought to the Tavistock Area has been be facilitated by West Devon Borough Council. But the final decision will be from Central Government. I suppose it will hang on how much money , Housing Associations and others can use to provide social housing (guaranteed rents paid - Housing Benefit and Council Tax from all the mugs who struggle to pay otherwise). There are genuine cases of need of course, but they appear to be getting lost in those making a career out of claiming free housing and free as much as they can get. I am not including Members of Parliament as they appear to be finding legitimatised claims stressful. The poor dears.

ReportDon't forget that it's committees made up of locally elected people that make final decisions on council policy. The core strategy business is a case in point - you only have to read the many articles and letters in the tavy times to see how a final decision on such a big matter is made.

ReportProvide services? Most Councils are out to screw the Council Tax Payer and this is done successfully year on year. Councils consist of locally elected people to direct them, their positions to represent the views of the electorate . Not that you would think so, they start joining in the screwing...
