Waitrose or Sainsburys?

Both of these Supermarkets are interested in coming to Tavistock. I will support either if the Urban Sprawl goes ahead. I will also think of supporting them if Conservative Parking Meter Tax Machines are installed.
I take the view if we are changing into just another Town. Lets go the whole hog. Morrison's is over shopped now and Lidl is Lidl. More people will avoid shopping in the Town when the new Traffic Order is implemented and the other Traffic Order is amended (bringing Parking Meter Tax). All by Dave's Puppet Show (Devon County Council if you are just visiting). It sits alongside the other public descriptions of a 'Dictatorship' and 'Communist'.
We also have a BID (Business Improvement District) in progress, just like Cities and large Towns. I sympathise with sole traders who will need to increase costs initially to cover increased Business Rates. The Customers end up paying come what may.
So who will be the new Bride for the Town and taken along the aisle (shopping) by one of the Mayors? Depending where it is built.
Footnote: For those not aware - Waitrose have declared that they are keen to open a Supermarket in Tavistock. They are looking for a site and it was rumoured that the Cattle Market would be bought for this purpose. Tavistock Town Control have quashed this rumour by stating that the Cattle Market was not being sold. Sainsburys have put in at least two planning applications that have been turned down.

The only things we go to the town centre for are things we can't get online (we bulk buy our non-perishables from whichever online supermarket is cheapest) and can't get at Morrisons. We shop at Morrisons in preference to the town because once we cross the Callington Road (no easy job in the summer!) the route via Monksmead, canal, football grounds, Brook Lane is lovely. The kids plead to cycle to Morrisons when they can't be dragged into town.
I don't see many other people doing their shopping the same way, so my perspective may not carry much weight!

ReportYes please to another supermarket. Morrisons is often overcrowded and understocked. Lidl is a chaotic mix of obscure products. Tavistock is being spoilt not by the out of town supermarkets but by the high costs involved for small traders. Hence Tavistock is well on the way to clone town status with the spread of multiples who can afford the high costs involved. Several small businesses are closing, no doubt to be replaced by large "every town has one" shops. Out of town shopping for heavy items with car parking is a fact of modern life, trying to put back the clock will leave Tavistock with the worst of both worlds.

ReportWhat do you mean 'why are you bringing it up again?' I'm confused :-\ But yes neither would definately be my choice (if we had a choice)

ReportWhy are you bringing this up again? What about the choice of neither? Locals have been campaigning against Sainsburys coming to tavistock as they want to build on a green field. Do we want all the independant shops to close down and look like every other town in England?
