TAVISTOCK College students have tucked into tasty turkey dinners served to them by their teachers and the town’s mayor.

Staff donned festive hats to dish up Christmas lunches to the excited students in the final week of term.

Catering manager Lynn Roberts said: “It started four or five years ago when some staff offered to help and the principal stepped in too.

“The students love it - it gives them the chance to see teachers in a different light - and the staff enjoy doing it. Some do it year after year, it’s the buzz. It’s fast and it’s furious!”

Mandy Govier, mayor of Tavistock and chair of governors at the college, also helped to serve the turkey, vegetables and pigs in blankets to students.

“It’s the first time we’ve had a governor helping,” added Mrs Roberts. “All staff had an invitation, whether they are teachers or support staff and we always get a good response.”
