New Food Waste Collection Scheme

After Christmas, Tavistock will have a new food waste collection scheme, set up by West Devon Borough Council.
"In the UK we throw away more food waste than packaging," says Councillor Robert Sampson, chair of the council’s Environment and Community Committee. "Next year, West Devon Borough Council will be introducing a new waste contract which will give every household a food waste collection. Along with other changes to the contract, we hope that this will encourage residents to think carefully about what they are throwing away – as always, our message is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!"
More than £12 billion worth of food is thrown out every year in the UK, costing around £480 per household per year. This increases to £680 per year for families with children.

To clarify, I mean having to keep it around for up to a week.
If I put something smelly in my bin I can take it outside right away but I can't do the same with a food bin as I have nowhere else to put its contents.

ReportI dont see why having a food waste bin in your kitchen is rank- where do you normally throw your food away!!
I have been using the food waste collection for over a year with no problem- my cat hasn't even worked out how to open the food bin- and she's good!

ReportI'm all for recycling but having a food waste bin in your kitchen is a bit rank.
Why not just cook less and then throw away less?
