St. Eustachius Church was packed last evening for the Tavistock Stannary Band Proms Concert. The mix of modern arrangements for brass and old time favourites; Pomp and Circumstance and Radetsky March, interspersed with singing by the Plymouth Gilbert and Sullivan Fellowship got everyone's feet tapping and flags waving.
Broadcaster and Patron of the Tavistock Stannary Band, Angela Rippon, was in fine form and there were some lively exchanges between her and the Musical Director and Conductor, Peter Jones.
Proms goers had plenty of opportunities to join in with World War One tunes; When you're smiling, It's a long way to Tipperary, Hello! Hello! Who's your lady friend? and Take me back to dear old Blighty! And of course Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
Tavistock Lions Club provided welcome refreshments during the interval.
Tavistock Stannary Band is very popular and has a broad age range of players from eleven years to past retirement age. They raise funds to buy instruments so that newcomers can learn without having to purchase instruments themselves.
Raffle tickets in aid of the instrument fund were on sale and prizewinners will be drawn at their Christmas Concert at St. Eustachius Church on December 12th. So if you missed this one, make sure you get a ticket for the next.
