Changing heads at Tavistock College

Okehampton College principal Daryll Chapman is to take over as temporary principal of Tavistock College at the end of the half term holiday after Devon County Council confirmed that Tavistock principal Colin Eves has become 'absent' from his position – but there is yet to be any official details over why he is not at school. It is believed the school, in Crowndale Road Tavistock, is expecting the results of a recent Ofsted inspection.

Bad Ofsted....I should say. The school is in Special Measures - ie is a failing school. This is unacceptable - particularly as the catchment area is good. Tavistock College has been letting down a significant number of pupils for years. They were given notice to improve last year (see Governors Minutes available on-line) and has failed miserably to meet the challenge.

Very very sad for the children and parents of the area to be let down so incredibly badly.

The college has been banned from speaking to the media by Devon County Council so they can't say anything. If you want more information contact the council.

Yes it sounds like it probably has got something to do with it. Guess we'll have to wait until Mon to find out. I hope people don't forget all of the many positives that are coming out of the school.

Recent Ofstead report might have a bearing.

Devon CC and the local LEA need to come out and tell the story - officially.

Meantime support the remaining staff for the good of the students.

I can't believe thats all they told you! Not on really. A friend of mine tried to ring the college to find out whats happening but just got an answer phone message saying they're closed for half term. Surely it would be that hard to put together a press release or something to let people know whats going on. It's not knowing thats making everyone anxious.
