An excelent hotel right in the heart of Tavistock yet offering the service of a quiet country manor house. Steeped in history yet offering all modern facilities including a gym, tv room and a high class menu that would satisfy the most demanding of tastebuds. With big comfy chairs in the lounge area you can while away the afternoon watching the world go by or just relax your eyes for 5mins after an evening feast. Its one of the more expensive places in Town but worth it for a special treat.

I stayed at Browns for 1 evening in December, the team are excellent and are really customer focused. The down sides are if you check in late the restaurant closes which is disapointing after a long 5 hour drive. However the team did let me order off the 2 menus and the food was great, restaurant was warm and cosy with a nice atmosphere. The breakfast was also excellent especially the sausage. The rooms where OK but felt the bathroom was a let down. All in all a great time with fab food. Will be booking again soon.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Browns Hotel the food was very well presented. The qaulity of the food was excellent and the staff were exceptionaly friendly and helpful. My family and I will certainly be returning to Browns in the near future and stongly recommend it.
We recently called in at Browns for lunch and have now booked for dinner this week end! All I can say is that it is the best food and service for miles. At lunch we had our children with us so chose to eat of the brasserie menu and everyone agreed it was fantastic. I had the melt in your mouth liver while the children chose the fish. We saw the fine dining dishes that people in the Restaurant area were having and they looked and smelt fabulous thats why we are going back (without the children!).
I really recommend this place.
Three of us met at Brown's for lunch. We sat in the Conservatory which was lovely while the sun shone. I had vulscombe goats cheese terrine with walnuts and beetroot and green leaf salad. A bit over the top on presentation (two separate platters for three wafer thin slices of beetroot, a handful of leaves, and several blobs of something peculiar and a sprinkling of walnuts. The terrine was limited in substance and taste; Vulscome is a very delicate cheese and the flavour was lost in what was more like a creamy sweet than a main course. However my friends had hake with lobster and a dill sauce and this was by all accounts delicious and perfectly cooked. We chose Browns because they tends to use local producers. The service was a bit slow. The second wine order didn't arrive until after we had finished dessert and this was only after having to prompt the staff. Nice atmosphere, not terribly good for vegetarians. Also, menu on wall outside which did look good for vegetarians was not actually what was on offer.
