On Saturday 22nd January Tavistock Town Hall will be holding a free public open day.
Tavistock Town Council would like to invite all members of the public to come and see what the Council does, the services it provides and to discuss and share ideas on potential improvements to our beautiful and historic Town.
Come along to meet the Town Mayor between 10am and 3pm, everyone is welcome.

I agree with you - I will go further and state that we are in a time where you cannot assume anything is 'free' or 'without charge'. In fact I am sure people are trained to be casual in their approach in suggesting the smallest extra - only to be charged out of proportion for it on the bill. The worst practice I saw was at a food fair, offering something as you would a sample, then asking for money. (Just as you are raising it to your lips).

ReportNo, I appreciate the clarification. It can't hurt to make sure that everyone understands (you can't assume that everyone will know that it's free). I always say that it's better to over communicate than under communicate! I'll try my best to get down there on the day :)

Report'An Open Day' would have just meant that, wherever it was held. It would also be an invitation to all. There would not be a area to misconstrue. If matters had not changed. I would have looked forward to seeing one the Conservative improvements, a Parking Meter Machine on its own pedestal lit by soft lighting. with our County Councillor gesturing at it, like a prize on Sale of the Century.

ReportI'm sorry if you have misconstrued the 'free' public open day wording. As you are probably aware some events in the Town Hall charge an entry fee, we just wanted to ensure everyone is aware that this is not the case on that day, and that everybody is welcome. We look forward to seeing you on the day!

ReportTavistock Town Council is our Council. The people of Tavistock are invited to see what their Council does. I believe that the hard nose delivery of Devon County Council and other political collusion is producing an 'us and 'them' mentality. A you pay, no say position that is rolled out as democracy.
