How well do you know the pubs in Tavistock?
-
The Union Inn, Tavistock
A few weeks ago we ran a ‘guess the restaurant from the review’ game. No prizes ... just a bit of fun :-) Well it proved to be pretty popular so I’ve put together another one. Are you ready for this? Its called ..... ‘guess the pub from the review’ Oooooooh
(Some of the pubs are on the outskirts of Tavistock)
1. '***** is a lovely pub with a good atmosphere especially at the weekends if you like your bars busy and lively! There is a large seating area outside which makes this pub one of the best to go to in the summer months as others in Tavistock are missing a garden or smoking area. The stairs down to the toilets and the garden can be a little hairy after a few!'
2. '***** is in the heart of town and is a well established 'old fashioned' establishment. It's what pubs used to be like. Always a steady stream of good local - talented - bands playing, and good beers too. It isn't posh, shiny or brightly lit, it is slightly shabby, the people in there are just a little rough around the edges - but that's what gives it character ! Look at the outside, and it does what it says on the tin. Oh - and it has a parrot!'
3. 'I've been here a couple of times and it is simply delightful. So many pubs have been updated and redone until they have no character left at all, but ***** is lovely and old fashioned with open fires and traditional food. Huge portions of well-cooked meals, a good range of wines and ales and friendly service. Highly recommended.'
4. '***** is situated in the most wonderful rural location, very close to the town but only 5 minutes walk from the moor. So this is the perfect pub to visit after a long walk on the moor - especially if you have your dog with you because the pub is dog friendly and if you are lucky enough to arrive when the land lady is around your pooch maybe treated to a bonio or something equally tasty! Food is above average and drinks are very reasonable.'
5. 'I stopped in here with my boyfriend last summer and had a meal in the beer garden. I'm sure the sunny weather contributed to it, but we had a really good afternoon. The food was reasonably priced and the portion sizes were good. Despite being on the edge of a road the beer garden was actually very peaceful. There was also a good play area for children.'
6. '***** is an ideal place of a weekend! It can be too busy, so much so its hard to get a drink or to move!! Although the majority of time especially in the summer when the outside seating is available it is big enough to accommodate the amount of people that go there! The beers are about standard price and the staff work hard! There is a good range of live music playing regularly and a good place to end the night!'
7. 'Go down a small road, then a smaller one, then a smaller one. Then through a farmyard, and all of a sudden emerge into a good car park in front of a very attractive old pub! Low ceilings, stonework, log fires. A top shelf of single malts that must be ten yards long. Fabulous selection of well kept beers. Good wines. And an excellent restaurant in really nice decor. I'd recommend ***** anytime to anyone who'd appreciate something better than usual. Hosts very friendly too.'
8. '*****, despite being out of the way is a decent pub for the occasional drink! It has a good selection of real ales and is very warm! There is a games room upstairs that is often free for use and very spacious. Haven't tried the food for a long time but no real complaints from memory.'
9. 'A nice pub. They have welcoming staff and plenty of friendly locals. This doesn't seem like one of the pubs where everyone turns and stares at you when you walk through the door. Their food is very good as well. I have been to a couple of good comedy nights there and would certainly go there for a pint or two if I was on a night out in Tavi.'
10. '***** is a brilliant pub for company and to feel welcome at! It regularly welcomes myself and the rugby team of a weekend with open arms! Its fairly open with comfortable seating around the edge, a large bar and pool tables, itbox, dart boards and a jukebox to keep you occupied!'
11. 'This is a nice little pub. Ok it's not got the most modern or up to date decor, but there's something welcoming and quaint about that. Its crooked walls and floors are quite characterful. The staff have always been very friendly and are only too happy to stop and have a chat. Nice for the odd mid week drink.'
12. '***** does the most fabulous food with a very large and varied menu. The puddings are delicious and writing this review is tempting me to book a table for the weekend! The atmosphere is excellent with a few locals always sitting at the bar with their paper and pint, often still wearing their wellies from their hard day out on the farm. Everyone always very friendly and welcoming, everything a country pub should be.'
