Back to school with Tavistock People

Is there anything better then writing in a brand new notebook, with a brand new pen, from a brand new pencil case? ..... or maybe I’m just a geek!
It was a long time ago now, but I can still remember the excitement of starting back in the new school year. I’d have my new bag, stationery, and uniform all lined up and ready to go a week before the start (yes yes .... I'm definately a geek). There was something about having brand new stuff that instilled an enthusiasm to do well .... although that never normally lasted longer than a week!
So it’s time for Tavistock to start thinking about gearing up for the new school year. But where are the best places to shop?
Stationery:
There are a few places to shop for stationery in Tavistock. Of course there’s WH Smith, which can be pricey, but also guarantees good quality merchandise. Then there’s Dolan Allan on West Street, and Mainly Stationery in Brook Street - which has got some great reviews in our Business Directory. Lidl can also sell some useful bits and pieces.
Uniform:
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Tavistock has a designated uniform shop. You used to be able to pick up bits from Woolworths, but of course those times are gone L. The only place I know of is Hazard. They have a section at the back of the shop which is set aside for uniforms.
We’re also a bit thin on the ground for shops that sell school shoes. Although we have several shoe stores in the town, most of them only cater for adults. Stead & Simpson, on the main high street, do sell suitable shoes, although they don’t do width fittings or half sizes. Fashion Direct is probably your best bet though. They sell a few different makes including Clarks. Alternatively if you want to revamp some old shoes you could either use Timpson or Polly Perkins.
Active & Co (now next to Stead & Simpson) is pretty good for P.E. gear. They sell shorts, trainers and T-Shirts in children’s sizes, and also stock polo shirts in the school house colours.
There’s been a pretty heated debate over the new Tavistock College uniform logo recently. Click here to have a look and add your comments.

Bags:
You can find school bags in many of the fore mentioned shops. There’s also a great stall in the Pannier Market which stocks a wide variety of styles and sizes.
Food:
There are lots of places to shop for healthy lunch box snacks in Tavistock. The town centre has Stokes, Crebers, Co-op, Somerfield, and the Market. Then there’s always Morrisons and Lidl – both of which have loads of great offers on at the moment.
Do you have any healthy or novel ideas for school snacks? Let us know in the comments section.
Let me know if there are any shops I’ve missed out. Have you found any great classroom essentials in, or around Tavistock? Do you have any back to school money saving tips? Share you findings here!
Please do rate and review the local businesses listed above. We’ll give you a £10 M&S, Amazon, Boots, Next, or Argos voucher for every ten reviews you write ..... just think how much stationery you could buy with that ;)

Tesco run second to Tax taken by the Government on each pound spent. There must be more 'Tesco Card' holders then Political ones. Perhaps they should form a Party with a strap-line, Every Vote Helps...

ReportThat's the attitude that's going to kill off Tavistock's shops! we shouldn't automatically head for Plymouth when shopping. We need to help the town's liitle businesses or the country will be run by Tesco!! ..........

ReportYeah or you can also pick up some good bargins online. Shame we don't have any supermarkets that sell clothes in Tavistock because they're great for stuff like that.
I do love Tavistock, and the shops, but they're not really that great for some things. If you want shoes it's better to go into Plymouth.

ReportLOL yeah I remember them! They had one in Clarks in Plymouth. I used to think it was great fun!
If you don't mind driving a bit Tescos in Roborough is good for school stuff. You can get it pretty much all under one roof and the prices aren't bad either.
