750 houses could be good for Tavistock

There has been a lot of talk on the site over the last week about the new houses that are going to be built - all negative unfortunately. I'm wondering if these people have stopped to think about the positives that the houses will bring??

1. More people = more money being spent in Tavistock

2. People on lower incomes will be able to afford to live here.

3. The railway will be a huge boost to Tavistock allowing people to commute easily in both directions.

4. We can keep up to date, and grow alongside other towns.

People need to stop moaning and face the reality - things change. The council have been working really hard to ensure that the plans are tip top, but no one is thanking them!

Kyloe - This subject was baited. If hard work was ever needed by any Council, not only would it be outsourced, but the procurement would be as well.

Of course no one is thanking them, the Council have hardly worked hard in my opinion - lets dump it all on green fields - easy, anyone can come up with that plan.

Yes things do change, and yes more housing is needed - not disputed, but people need to face the reality that the housing could spread out more, brown sites could be used, not one's that will damage our countryside and displace wildlife and wreck areas of significant importance.

The railway reinstatement is nothing more than blackmail by the building companies "we'll reinstate it if you give us green fields". And after they have, how many people in reality will really use it to such a large degree that it will bring significant income to our town? It's more likely that it will take money from our town as people use it to nip in to Plymouth, of which we will become a suburb.

The reason Tavistock is so unique is that fact that it has retained it's character, and thats what attracts visitors, otherwise why bother coming here?
