Multiple thefts on Dartmoor

Police are appealing for information following a spate of thefts from unattended motor vehicles on Dartmoor.

Between 12.20pm and 4.20pm on Thursday 24th February four cars

were broken into whilst parked and unattended in parking areas at

Haytor, Grims Pound, Saddle Tor, and Pullabrook Wood.

Property exceeding £1400 in value was stolen including cash, IPods, satellite navigation units, mobile phones and keys.

Damage was caused to the vehicles and considerable inconvenience caused to the victims.

At around 4.30pm later that day cash was obtained from an ATM at Ashburton using a bank card stolen in the Saddle Tor crime.

At around 3.30pm the victims at Grims Pound were standing on the

Tor when they saw the criminals who broke into their car from 500 feet

away. There were at least two offenders and they were travelling in a

red coupe type car. A red car was also seen at the Haytor crime scene.

Police are reminding people visiting isolated areas not to leave valuables in their cars.

    There needs to be a reminder not to leave your pin code with your card. You could end up with having your bank account emptied or credit completely used. You will have to stand that loss yourself as well unless you can prove it was not your negligence.
