A huge big thank you to the 32 volunteers and Womble the collie dog who turned out to help clean up the town and surrounding area today the 2nd Feb.
Five teams set off in different directions and within two hours collected 36 bags of rubbish, plus 7 full bags of recyclable material. Other items were a pair of handcuffs! what a find these were.
A team working in the Crelake Ind. Est. had their work cut out collecting a large amount of plastic bottles, drink cans, glass bottles and food packaging. This I feel is being discarded from people working in the area after eating their lunch.
A box of empty silicone containers were found in the hedge opposite a plumbing business.
It seems that people think it quite acceptable to use the hedging around the Industrial Est. as a dumping ground. This is completely unacceptable!
There is a large amount of fly tipping in the hedge at the top of the industrial Est. it was far too much for the Tidy Tavi team to tackle.
This is the 15th Tidy Tavi Day and while we think there is a lot less litter around than when we started our Tidy Tavi days 16 months ago, there are still certain area's that remain litter hot spots.
It isn't a difficult thing to do, so please those of you that throw litter down STOP doing it. Take some responsibility if there isn't a bin close by, find one or take your litter home.
For people working in area's such as Industrial estates where there are no bins, PLEASE discard your rubbish within your work premises and not in the hedges or on the ground.
HELP make TAVISTOCK a litter free town.
If you would like to join our very friendly group, come along the 1st Saturday of each month. We meet at the Wharf at 9.50am.
All equipment provided, please bring your own protective gloves.
