My Mother-in-Law re-located to Tavistock in 1997 with her youngest daughter who was only two years old at the time. They both love living in Tavistock and have made lots of friends and never want to leave. You can get everything you need in Tavistock, the town is very friendly and there is always something going on. There are lots of clubs and societies particularly associated with the love of Dartmoor, music, theatre, and sport. If you love being out in the fresh air, Tavistock is within walking distance of Dartmoor and a forty minute bus ride to the coast. Tavistock is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage Site and has a long and interesting history from the establishment of the Abbey and wool trading to the development of the Town by the Duke of Bedford who's riches were mainly from copper mining. Culturally, Tavistock is better than most towns with concerts, music and literary festivals and art exhibitions regularly taking place. The Wharf switches between cinema and live music and drama venue very well. Plymouth is not too far by bus or car and has larger theatres, cinemas and live entertainment venues. It rains quite a lot in Tavistock but it is still a great place to live.
