I actually thibnk it's a great idea. If they were making them do it for free then yes that would be terrible, but what's wrong with offering them a chance to earn some money? And yes a cleaning job would look good on their cv. It would show that they're not shy of hard work and are prepared to put in the extra hours after school. With the serious lack of jobs that are on offer at the moment i think it's a great idea for the school to offer the opportunity to the students first. Just my opinion.

ReportAdults should take priority when it comes to jobs to support their families so no I don't think the students should be offered the jobs first. I agree that it is good for students to work hard but we need to remember these students are revising for A' levels so this is a lot for them to take on. Also, a student is becoming a member of staff when the school employs them so this is blurring the boundaries. I just feel the college is stepping over the line here asking the kids to clean the school and youngsters shouldn't be taking adult jobs. These young people should be putting their school work first because of the competition for places at university. There is a difference between a Saturday job and having a proper employment contract. Call me old fashioned, but I worry about what the college is going to expect next...

ReportIt seems that this is not new, employing students on lunch time duties and as cleaners in educational establishments. But balanced against high unemployment in the real world, how many jobs are disappearing? Being carried out by someone in education who is not actually unemployed?
