I am fed up taking 20 minutes to get from Drake's Statue to the bus station last Thursday. Missed a doctor's appointment because of it.

Only going to get worse with all these road closures planned in the next couple of days. And traffics bound to increase when all the new houses are built!

It would be interesting to see how much time you allowed yourself to go to the Doctors. It is nothing like torture to park or travel through Tavistock. It is not perfect but it is far better then many other places in England. Yes I was there and Yes I also had a Doctor's appointment, Yes I had doubts I would make it at one point. But fixed appointments raise those doubts at any sign of delay. If we have Urban Sprawl thrust upon us off the wish list of West Devon Borough Council. Traffic Management by way of Traffic Signals may be the only solution. Charging for on street parking plus VAT at high rates - the only way to provide space for all.

I live near Drake Stores and should have made the journey to the surgery in less than 5 minutes. If I had not been disabled, I would have walked. I allowed 10 minutes for a brief journey, but it took 25 minutes in all to crawl down Plymout Rd. This problem has only arisen since some bright spark saw fit to alter ther road structure by the square changing it from 3 lanes to two.

pobox112 is obviously not local if they do not realise how close the distance is from Drake Statue to Canal Road.and 20 minutes to traverse less than half a mile is ludicrous especially as it happens too often. As I said, had I not been disabled I would have walked it.!

Now Now, as you state yourself it happens so often. You should have allowed for that. Email Devon County Council and complain about the road marking changes. Obviously I would be the first to be surprised if they took any notice. In essence we are on the same side, I want to see common sense applied to the road markings to ensure good Town traffic through flow.

It would be interesting to find out how many people resent the slow travel through the town centre. The noise, fumes and all that goes with a constant and regular crawl of traffic around the town should have been addressed by the relevant council long before now. Instead of creating it they should have discouraged the stupid and unnecessary alterations that do absolutely nothing to improve the quality of local and tourist life.

I am certain there will not be many who disagree with your view. Perhaps in Bedford Square there should be a Police Officer directing the traffic at certain times of the day. Obviously it could be a PCSO, but I doubt they have the power (powers that are so limited to be of little use in the first place). I realise that this a bit of a pipe dream as the Police have better things to do, such as sitting in traffic congestion...

I would think they (the Police) find it just as frustrating at peak times, when it is usually congested.

I would agree with that. Even on that journey you can witness inept Devon County Council road management. As long as they can get home after a day of seat polishing. All is well.
