At approx 8:40 am on Wednesday 14th July 2010 my son age 5 was hit by car which shunted him into the road outside the Spar Abbey Place Tavistock on the the way to school. Luckily my son was fine apart from shock of the incident. But I am disgusted that the driver did not get out of the car to check if he was ok. The driver was pulling out of the car park from behind the spar turning left towards the mini round about on bedford square. He was an older gentleman driving a silver/grey saloon car. I have reported this incident to Tavistock Police crime ref 185 If anyone did witness this please report it to Tavistock Police or devon and cornwall police 08452777444

I don't think he saw him as the incident occured but he stopped and looked after. He was aware I would say!

Gosh that's awful! It blows my mind that anyone could even consider driving off without checking that he was ok!

I didn't see it, but will ask around for you.

Is your son ok now? Still shaken up I would imagine.

Thanks for the update. Again no excuses. There can be an inbuilt human reaction to these sorts of matters - 'Flight or Fight'. But because this is Tavistock I am not giving the driver the benefit of this. All in all this was careless driving and could have resulted in something far more serious. If this is in the local paper this week I would hope that the driver comes forward to sort this out. Because not only was your Son lucky so was the driver!
