Information has come to me that a well existed close to the birth place of Drake from which his family would have drawn water. Whilst his family home was demolished in the middle of the 19th Century, Crowndale Farm is close to it's remains - perhaps even some of the materials were used to build Crowndale Farm?
Any information or help in locating Drakes birth place or the well would be much appreciated.
I know of 3 holy wells in Tavistock, St John’s Well, Fitz’s Well and Brown’s Hotel Well. Hope this helps.

Thanks Kate, yes found it and have photo but it's not my property so am hoping to get there soon to take my own pics. It's is on Crowndale Farm and can be found on historic maps - Thanks to a facility known as magic.gov.uk
The well is considered to be one of the best Tudor wells known that is still in situ. It consists of two horizontal walls running out of a gentle slope, within are two slates set to the walls. The one slate being for your butter/milk the other to provide shade from the sun.
I can only say it's taken a while to locate but I do persevere - "don't be discouraged, it's often the last key in the bunch that opens the door"
