Tavistock's monthly Arts Market is set to continue after West Devon Borough Councillors gave the event their support.
The market, which was held in Bank Square, has been a great a success and the arts community, and local businesses have shown overwhelming support for it to continue.
Following the conclusion of the 2011 pilot scheme, the arts market is expected to resume in March in the indoor Pannier Market, move to Bedford Square in May, and then move back to Bank Square for the summer (June – October).
The market will be held on the first weekend of each month and is supported by local businesses, the Borough Council, Tavistock Chamber of Commerce, and the Town Council, and is coordinated by Tessa Clarke, a local artist.
Cllr Robert Oxborough, Chairman of West Devon Borough Council's Environment and Community Committee said: "The Arts Market has been an outstanding success and has provided a real boost to this part of the town centre. The borough council is keen to build upon its success and make it a regular attraction, adding to the vitality of Tavistock's cultural landscape."
Tessa said: "I'm delighted that this project has been so welcomed by the public, local businesses and the artists. I have received lots of feedback and everyone wants to know when we start again! Our local arts community continuously produces amazing, original work, so put the first weekend of each month in your diaries and come along and meet the artists."
