PLYMSTOCK residents who dug deep during the festive period donated more than £4,000 to the Rotary Club of Saltram Plympton.
The club carried out seven Santa Sleigh Collections in December around Plymstock, Wembury and Yealmpton, and raised a total of £1,866.08.
In addition to this £921.23 was collected from generous shoppers on The Broadway, and a further £1,912.17 from locals carrying out their weekly shop at Morrisons.
The overall total for the 2011 Christmas collection came to a staggering £4,699.48 - all of which will go towards a wealth of charities.
Roger Monson, president of the Rotary Club, said: "We wish to extend our grateful thanks to everyone living in Plymstock, Wembury and Yealmpton and all the Morrisons customers for their generous donations.
"This year we have selected a diverse group of mainly children's charities to support."
The two main beneficiaries this year will be CHICKS, a charity based near Tavistock which provides disadvantaged children throughout the UK with respite breaks in Devon and Cornwall, and the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, providing disabled young people with specialist care.
