Sunday 8th January

South West Women's Football League Division 1 West

Morley Rangers (2) Vs Callington Town (1)

Callington got off to the worst possible start in their away visit to high-flying Morley Rangers. After less than a minute they found themselves a goal down when some sloppy defending allowed Morley striker Chynna Evans to skip round Callington keeper Sara Rowe and tap into an empty net.

The away side didn't dwell on their error for long and soon began to force some pressure of their own. Callington went close on 20 minutes when an excellent Kate Lewis cross was met by Sasha Cameron, but her volley went just wide.

Although the home side looked dangerous on the break, it was Callington who controlled the lion's share of possession during the first period. On the half hour mark they got a deserved equaliser. Some good build up play between Callington's Katy Sheffield and Jodie Shipton resulted in striker Kayleigh Dawe riffling home a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

After the break it was Morley's turn to dominate possession. Playing down a slight slope the home side began to fashion a number of good chances on goal - the best of which saw Evans fire over the bar from close range.

Callington tried to hold firm with Rowe making a number of good saves from long range shots, but found themselves behind once again on the hour mark. A corner kick from the home side made its way through a crowded penalty box only to be deflected off the unfortunately placed Anneliese Noakes into the back of her own net.

Callington tried hard to find a second equalising goal and almost got it when an effort from Cameron was cleared off the goal-line.  However, the home side defended well and held out to earn a valuable three points.

Callington's player of the match went to Kayleigh Dawe for a well taken goal and good all round performance.

The girls are away to Charlestown in the Cornwall County Cup this Sunday.
