A COLLEGE was evacuated after a tiny fire in a boy's toilet block.

Students at Tavistock College in Crowndale Road had to stand in the freezing cold while firefighters from Tavistock retained fire station were called to a fire involving an A4-sized noticeboard shortly after 9.30am yesterday.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and one dry powder extinguisher to tackle the blaze.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "There was a small fire in the boys' toilet, resulting in a little smoke damage.

"The school carried out a full evacuation which went very well and we would like to praise them for the smooth running of this evacuation.

"Two appliances from the Tavistock station attended and after examining the situation, left it in the hands of the school to deal with the matter."

    This isn't strictly true!
According to my step son who is in the sixth form, the college didn't actually have a clue what to do, it was disorganised mayhem! The teachers were wandering around just chatting with each other and the so called lines of pupils dispersed into chaos...seems their fire drill needs a thorough overhaul and the spokesperson for the Fire Brigade should get their facts right..perhaps they were dreaming...;-)
