EIGHT teams of amateur footballers scored a goal for charity on Sunday by raising £128 for CHICKS and the Alzheimer's Society.

The one-day, seven-a-side tournament took place at Callington Community College with teams from Ginsters, Tesco, and Kensey Foods eventually losing out to winners St Dominick Ladies Football Club and Tamar Foods.

Several Tavistock AFC players were also involved in the day.

Mick Ryan, Cornwall fundraiser for CHICKS said: "Many thanks to Ginsters for organizing this wonderful event. The money raised will go a long way towards funding the free respite breaks CHICKS provides for disadvantaged children from all over the UK, including many from Cornwall."

Organizer Kate Barker, Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator for Ginsters, said: "We hope this is the first of many events to bring all the local community together. This has been a great opportunity to work and play with other local companies and organizations."

Alan Woollcombe, Tesco Callington Community Champion, said: "Thanks to Ginsters and to all those taking part for contributing to our target of raising £5 million this year for the Alzheimer's Society to help fund research and support for those suffering from dementia."
