South West Women's League (Div 1 West)

Bude (2) Vs Callington (2)

Although Callington earned a useful away point at second place Bude, they left wondering how they they failed to secure the win after being two goals ahead until the last fifteen minutes of the game.

In a very even first half both sides attacked with pace going forward. Callington wingers Kate Bourn and Kate Lewis each had chances in the early stages of the match, but both efforts went narrowly wide of the post. Bude also looked dangerous in the final third - twice hitting the away side's cross bar.

Callington opened the scoring 30 minutes in when Bourn played a deep cross from the left to Town striker Sasha Cameron, who expertly headed the ball into the far corner of the net from six yards out. The goal saw every outfield Callington player carry out the infamous 'rocking baby' celebration which was aimed towards the team's assistant Manager James Crawford who announced his good news before the game.

The second half saw a much more energised performance from the home side, but despite this lively start it was Callington who doubled their lead. A neat exchange of passes between midfielder Kayleigh Dawe and Cameron saw the striker break clean through on goal before calmly lobbing the out rushing keeper from 18 yards to grab her second goal of the match.

Bude continued to press hard to get back into the game, but Callington resisted their onslaughts whilst continuing to create more chances at the other end of the pitch. The visitors nearly went three goals clear after being awarded a corner, but midfielder Jodie Shipton's assertive header crashed off the cross-bar to safety.

With fifteen minutes remaining Bude pushed more players forward and began to dominate possession. Eventually they got the life-line they were looking for, when a cross caught the Callington's backline off-guard and dropped into the far corner of the net.

In the dying stages Callington defended strongly with keeper Sara Rowe denying a number of Bude chances from close range. However, with just two minutes remaining the visitors succumbed to the pressure when a long range effort found its way through a crowd of players and managed to squirm underneath the Town keeper to level the game.

Player of the match was awarded to striker Sasha Cameron for her two stunning goals and hard work rate throughout.

Callington LFC have no fixture this coming Sunday, but are away at Dobwalls on 30th October.
