Sunday 20 November

South West Women's Football League (Div 1 West)

Roche (2) Vs Callington (2)

Callington gained a useful away point from a tough fixture at Roche on Sunday, but will feel slightly disappointed to have let a two goal lead slip during the second half.

The away side made a strong start, dominating possession and driving forward from midfield. However, Callington seemed to be having an unlucky day in front of goal when an effort was blocked on the line after just 10 minutes.

A few minutes later Town striker Sasha Cameron saw her shot deflect off the post and roll agonisingly across the length of the goal line. Callington eventually got the goal they deserved when on 25 minutes a dangerous corner from Sam Veal was volleyed home by Cameron from close range.

Callington doubled their lead five minutes later when Cameron picked up the ball from 18 yards out and fired a terrific shot past the Roche keeper.

Despite looking comfortable for the majority of the first half, Callington came out in the second period to a much improved Roche side who had the wind at their backs. Following some sustained pressure Callington made the mistake of giving the lively Charlotte Hobbs time and space in the penalty box and she made no mistake with her finish.

Roche, seemingly buoyed by the goal, continued to press the ball and harry Callington into making mistakes. With 15 minutes remaining they got the equalizer when a long range shot from 35 yards looped into the far corner of the Callington net.

In the dying stages Roche could have stolen all three points had in not been for a point blank save from Town keeper Sara Rowe and a goal line clearance moments later from Kate Fierek.

Following the game Callington Manager Adam McPherson said: "We were really pleased with how we played in the first half and probably underestimated the heart and desire of the Roche players who came out and battled in the second half. We were unlucky not to have been further ahead at the break but in the end we were also quite thankful of the point."

Callington will try for all three points when they entertain Roche at home this coming Sunday.
