Sunday 29 January
South West Women's Football League (Div 1 West)
Callington (1) Vs Falmouth (1)
This will feel like a win for Callington after they equalised on 80 minutes. The home side were a goal down after 15 minutes when a right wing cross was parried by home keeper Sara Rowe into the path of an on-rushing Falmouth striker who tapped into an empty net.
Callington fought back and had chances to equalise but efforts from Kate Lewis and Kayleigh Dawe were well saved by the Falmouth keeper.
The second half saw an inspired goalkeeping performance from Rowe to keep Callington in the game. Lady luck was also on Callington's side as Falmouth hit the cross bar from close range on the hour mark.
Despite being under pressure for long periods after the break, Callington hung in there and grabbed an equaliser 10 minutes from time. Anneliese Noakes, who worked tirelessly all game, played the ball into the path of Jodie Shipton who fired a left-footed shot into the far corner of the of the goal.
Callington managed to see out the remainder of the game and could of taken all three points but Dawe's shot in the dying stages went just wide of the post.
After the game Callington Manager Adam McPherson said: "If Falmouth could manage to put that side out each week, there's no doubt they would be challenging for the league title this season, but our girls kept working hard right to the very end and eventually got their reward. On another day we could easily have been well out of this match but we kept believing we could equalise."
Player of the match was shared between goal keeper Sara Rowe and defender Ann Fisher.
Callington's next match is at home to Charlestown in the league this coming Sunday.
